O problema \u00e9 que para explorar o ouro o projeto ter\u00e1 que utilizar materiais altamente t\u00f3xicos e<\/p>\n
formar uma imensa montanha de materiais\u00a0 quimicamente ativos que dever\u00e1 ficar \u00e0s margens do<\/p>\n
Xingu para sempre.\u00a0 Al\u00e9m disso, a SEMA\/PA dispensou estudos de impacto sobre os povos<\/p>\n
ind\u00edgenas e ignora que as profundas transforma\u00e7\u00f5es que Belo Monte est\u00e1\u00a0 para causar no<\/p>\n
rio e na vida das popula\u00e7\u00f5es da regi\u00e3o impedem uma\u00a0 previs\u00e3o correta dos impactos do projeto de minera\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n
Portanto, a\u00a0 avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de impacto ambiental realizada at\u00e9 o momento \u00e9<\/p>\n
totalmente\u00a0 insuficiente para fundamentar qualquer licen\u00e7a.<\/p>\n
Pedimos ao Governo do Par\u00e1 que n\u00e3o d\u00ea a licen\u00e7a ambiental ao projeto!<\/p>\n

The Canadian mining company Belo Sun seeks to build the largest gold mine in Brazil directly adjacent to the Belo Monte dam, exactly where the Xingu River will dry after its flow is diverted by the dam, the region known as \u201cVolta Grande do Xingu\u201d. The mega-mine would be only 10 km from two indigenous territories and close to an area of \u200b\u200bindigenous peoples living in voluntary isolation, threatening serious an irreversible impacts on these communities.<\/p>\n
The Secretary of the Environment of Par\u00e1 State (SEMA \/ PA) plans to imminently approve Belo Sun’s environmental permit while Brazil’s federal environmental agency IBAMA considers this project to not be its responsibility, despite the serious environmental threat the project portends for indigenous peoples and the region’s ecosystem.<\/p>\n
In order to exploit this Amazonian gold, the Belo Sun will need to employ highly toxic materials like cyanide and will produce a huge mountain of toxic waste that will be discarded and remain forever on the banks of the Xingu River. The SEMA \/ PA impact studies dismissed the mine’s impacts on indigenous peoples and ignored the mine’s interaction with the profound transformations that the Belo Monte dam will cause the Xingu River and the life of the peoples of the region. Therefore, the environmental impact assessment carried out to date is entirely insufficient to substantiate any license.<\/p>\n
We strongly urge that the Government of Par\u00e1 does not approve Belo Sun’s environmental license!<\/p>\n
